Dress Code Policy
Appropriate Dress
At Sunol Glen, we strive to work in partnership with parents/guardians to maintain high academic and social standards. We believe these standards are better upheld when students dress appropriately.

Basic Principle:
School is a place of learning, and students are encouraged to dress appropriately. Certain body parts must be covered at all times. Clothes must fully cover the genitals, buttocks, breasts, navels, and nipples with non-see-through fabric.

Students Must Wear:
-
A shirt that covers the torso/midriff in the front, back, sides, and under the arms— even when the arms are lifted.
-
Pants/jeans or the equivalent (skirt, sweatpants, leggings, dress, shorts).
-
Shoes (closed-toed shoes are required for certain classes like PE and science labs for safety reasons).
Students May Wear:
-
Hats and hoods, but they must not obscure the face or ears (except for religious observance). Hats or hoods must be removed when requested by staff.
-
Religious headwear.
-
Fitted pants, non-see-through leggings, leggings with see-through panels, yoga pants, or skinny jeans (as long as underwear and buttocks are not exposed).
-
Ripped jeans (as long as underwear and buttocks are not exposed).
-
Pajama pants.
-
Tank tops, including spaghetti straps and halter tops.
-
Athletic attire.
-
Visible waistbands or straps on undergarments worn under other clothing.
-
Sunglasses outdoors (unless authorized for medical reasons indoors).
-
Sun-protective clothing for outdoor use.
Special Dress Requirements:
Coaches and teachers may impose more stringent requirements for safety in certain sports or classes (e.g., safety glasses in science). Guidelines may also be adjusted for health, religious observances, or other special circumstances approved by administration.

Students Cannot Wear:
-
Violent language or images, including gang-related attire.
-
Images or language depicting drugs, alcohol, or any illegal item or activity.
-
Hate speech, profanity, pornography.
-
Language/images that create a hostile or intimidating environment or target any protected class or marginalized group.
-
Any clothing that reveals visible undergarments (e.g., sheer tops or bottoms).
-
Strapless tops, strapless dresses, or tube tops (unless worn over a top with straps).
-
Swimsuits.
-
Dangerous accessories or items that could be used as weapons.
-
Any item that obscures the face or ears (except for religious observance).
